The famous writer, young teacher at Alès, visited his
cousins Giblet during the summer 1857. Lasalle is a typical Cevennes village with its one 2km long street built along the Salindrenque river. As early as the 11th century, benedictans established a monastery on a promontory called La Mouthe and dedicated themselves to agriculture. - "La Cella" (the cell) was to become "Lasalle" -. Early converted to calvinism, Lasalle was a crave of reforme predicants who organized in january 1686 (during the reign of Louis XIV) 'assemblee du Desert', which were forbidden and hidden protestant services. Many reconverted or abandonned silk fabrics testify of a rich industrial past. Serveral castles dominate the valley. |
